I wanted to thank all the great dancers at the hafla tonight. I was one of the drummers (grey shirt, blue inlaid drum). I'm soaking my poor dominant hand in ice water now so I can play tomorrow! Great energy, great dancing. We gotta do this more often!! ;-) Till next year!

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 7:39 PMIt was a"bit" crowded. Genie almost whacked me in the head several times when he was moving that cane around. We'll have to get a bigger venue next year for the after party. -

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 8:31 PMContrary to last year in which we pretty much had the whole patio, the "private party" atmosphere this year made it feel very, very crowded. I got a "let's shove them to the back room" feeling. Next year, they need to give us the whole patio again....I wonder why they changed this year to just the back room..

Mon, April 28, 2008 - 8:46 PMKen and I had a blast drumming for you guys. I ordered some food and drink but it never showed up just like last year. Maybe next year we'll find a Greek restaurant and just take it over! Taverna Opa off of Oakland?

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 4:51 AMWhere the HELL is my sound effect? I cant make my grand entrance with out it. ... What do you mean it's still missing?
GET OUT OF MY FACE YOU IDIOTS !!!!!!!!!!!!
IM Sorry. It is I the Genie from Miami,
I want to thank all the drummers that night, I had a blast. I knew that Karim knew Tahteeb, the Egyptian Stick dance and I really wanted to see it and Learn it. So when he and the drummers performed it was like I had gotten and amazing birthday present. I had wanted to move the drummers over to the wall and set up so that Karim had more space to swing the stick around. But he insisted on going in that small space. I had no idea that he was such a great dancer. Peter thank goodness I didn't clock you. Im going to speak to Maja and to the manger and Owner of Off the Huka. It's obvious they don't want our business. Their was club was packed they acted like they didn't need us their. So, F@#K it. We can go some where else or meet at the hotel pool.
Lots of Love
Bill the Miami Genie -

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 6:46 AMthe drumming was awesome Peter, you're all awesome drummers. Ken, everyone. Lotus had a real fun time inprovising for a couple of hours there, it served us as a rehearsal for our Monday night gig. hehehhe. well, until people from the club came in and started dancing in between us, these were club girls by the things they said and how they dressed.
Off the Hooka is good during the week when there's not that many people there, but the weekends, you're right they don't need our business at $7.00 a plain vodka/cranberry (6 oz plastic cup) I rather bring my own booz to the beach.
there's an idea.
Karim's Cane was insane. what a show.
the entire weekend was incredible. I had a blast,.
loved everything. and Genie, I"m still dreaming about your earrings, don't fall asleep around me. ;) -

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 8:03 AMI agree wholeheartedly with moving the party somewhere else or just keeping with the pool party, seeing as how Genie's was completely kick-ass. I would have loved to dance more but moving around was an impossibility and I even managed to accidently take out a torch (YAY! I no kill everyone!!!) while trying to move away from the hubbub. My only real highlight was seeing Genie rock out with Karim who then proceeded to entertain the hell out of us with sticks.
Let's light a bonfire, take over the beach and disguise the booze. I think that would absolutely rule. -

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 12:47 PMI agree, I thought the location for the after show party was ok at best. I felt like the people who ran "Off the Hookah" were a little shady with their prices. A different location is my vote too. The pool party was cool and I wish I hadn't been so tired or else I would've dance more...But Genie got evidence of me dancing.
Thanks to everyone for making my first SotT a good one! My fiance and I were even talking about coming down there next year to take a break from planning for our wedding.
My most memorable moment would have to be making the aquintance of Genie. Crazy guy, but fun to know. -

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 5:27 AMIt's so bummer because Off the Hookah was really awesome last year. My party that I came with couldn't even get their waiter to come back to give them a bill. It' took them 45 minutes to settle their bill! Ouch.
Who knows? Maybe it'll be better next year after Maja delivers the smack down. There was no room to dance at all. -

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 7:18 AMYeah, it really was a pitty that Off the Hookah couldn't have been better...but oh well. Let's not dwell on such trivial things and keep focused on what made the time the best time of our lives. =)
Like how funny Zoe was when she walked in that gold outfit...I think I pulled a muscle in my side because I laughed so hard. Then when she came back out a couple minutes later and was tribal Zoe like it was nothing made just go "Dang".

Re: Thanks to the Dancers at the Hafla
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:35 AMLast year we were on the main patio and had plenty of room. Off the hookah should realize that if they hired more wait staff for that night they could make hundreds of dollars more. Have you seen the video from last year on youtube? -
